What Our Subscribers Are Saying
Donna,
The residents are loving it!
They loved the Christmas Show! So magical! Loved the music! Loved Santa on the train! All of it! They watched it several times.
They all wanted to watch your travel show to Italy and can't wait to go to France and Ireland!
You do such great work.
So excited to use this App!

Donna,
We are enjoying all of the programs you have to offer, trying something new each day. It continues to bring much joy and smiles to all. We even brought the big screen TV outside and had a sing along in our courtyard during a recent COVID occurrence as we were able to have outside activities during that time.
You can tell you love what you do. I along with the residents are getting in shape with exercises and dance shows, and if I can’t be there they can still move and groove with you. It has made such a impact on our programing.
Thank you for continuing to add new content!
We can’t wait to see what’s next.
We continue to spread your joy.
With great appreciation...

Donna,
I can't tell you what a joy it is for me to watch my wife, Marie, react to the videos. She sits forward in her chair full of wonder - laughing with bright eyes and exclamations of 'I remember that!' Thank you for putting together the most enjoyable, vibrant, and relatable content that keeps Marie entertained, active,
and best of all, present

The Human Experience
From Donna Surface
Executive Director of the Spiritwood Foundation
Thank you so much for connecting with us. As I said in my video, I started the Spiritwood Foundation in 2004 after my father died of Alzheimer's Disease. Through our Foundation my husband, Pat, and I have performed at nursing homes, assisted living communities, memory care facilities and Veterans Homes for many years. Performing live for our seniors and veterans has always been a joy for us, but when COVID hit, all of that stopped.
During the 17 months of COVID shut down, we began devising another way to deliver live entertainment to our elders. Through generous donations to our Foundation, we built a building that is a professional video recording studio - complete with state of the art equipment and a giant green screen wall so we can make 'movie magic.' After 4 years of development, hundreds of hours of recording, producing, and editing, here it is!
The Spiritwood Senior Living Network.
Music and musical performances are integral to the human experience.
With dementia, we see music break through to memories that were deeply buried, and thought lost.
Thank you for helping us provide this 'Awakening.'

Awakenings
Letter From A Senior Community Activity Director
Donna and Pat,
Thank you so much for making the long journey to bring your music and art to Alexandria. The residents and staff of Grand Arbor were truly enriched by your performance. I’ve since been bombarded by requests to have you return as soon as possible and have witnessed numerous people aglow with gratitude and joy as they recount the feelings and emotions that were evoked during your performance. In the healthcare industry, we often associate caring for individuals with things such as blood pressure checks, administering medication and stethoscopes. However, providing true care encompasses not only taking care of the physical body but also the spiritual and emotional aspects of being human. During your visit you were able to provide an amazing amount of fulfillment and enjoyment to one of our memory care residents named Jack. Jack is a retired high school band & orchestra instructor who’s life has been filled with music. Although Jack’s dementia impairs him from having the ability to speak very much, it has in no way impaired his ability to be spoken to by music. During your performance, Jack had an awakening that was seen physically by his radiating smile but also felt emotionally by his intense engagement as he was carried away and swept Over the Rainbow. Jack was emotionally inside of the music and was keeping time, anticipating key changes and feeling the crescendos and decrescendos. This kind of “care” is every bit as important-if not more. Thank you for enriching the life of Jack and all the staff and residents here at Grand Arbor. I look forward to working with you again soon.

Clinical Psychologist
I was born on a farm in Western Ohio and attended Kent State University, majored in speech pathology and audiology, and received a B.S. and M.A. degree. I finished a Ph.D. in clinical psychology at Michigan Sate University and then moved to Boston, MA. where I was the assistant director of the university mental health center. Along with a private practice in MA. I taught at Harvard Medical School and Massachusetts General Hospital.
Psychologically, I believe that music restores the soul and heals the sick. I am involved with singing groups and we perform at nursing homes, retirement communities, and churches. We are told that our audiences look forward to our concerts and are the highlight of their entertainment year.
This is truly the best therapy that I can provide - through music - more powerful than any psychotherapy.
I give my unbridled support to my friends, Pat and Donna Surface, for their gift of song that they provide - in person - and through their recordings and live video-taped performances. The psychological healing they provide to their audiences is priceless!
